As I’ve delved back into the book world, I’ve noticed there seems to be two (maybe 3) reading styles that exist. Until it was pointed out to me that I have a particular reading style, I’ve never truly thought about there being different types.
This type of reader has a list (either in their head or on paper) of books to read for the week/month/year. They know what they plan on reading and that’s how they choose their next book.
They’re systematic in their approach to reading books.
This type of reader chooses books based on how they feel at the moment. List of books be damned, the next book they’re picking up is based on their feelings.
This may mean they go hunting for a book to fit their particular genre they’re jonesing for at the moment. Whether it’s the library, or Amazon, they’re going to find the right book to fit their mood.
A combo of a list and mood reader, this type of reader chooses their next read based on what they have and how they’re feeling.
This may mean some books on their TBR (to be read) list may get put off for a long time if they’re not feeling it.
It’s been highly suggested I am a mood reader. I’ve definitely noticed that if I’m feeling like I need a particular genre, I’ll go searching high and low to find the right book to fit my mood. And sometimes I’m itching to read a particular book, but I don’t have it and the library doesn’t have it available right then. It can be hard for me to move past it and find another book.
It’s like a food craving, you know? I want a pizza but all I have are pizza bites. Totally not the same thing. I have no idea why I thought of pizza and those little pizza bites as my analogy, but I’m sure you know what I mean.
Do you fall into any of those reader categories? If not, what’s your reading style like?
