Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Amy, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.
Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.
Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of… lucky.

Be prepared for the onslaught of gushing that I’m about to do over this book.
I didn’t put two and two together that Christina Lauren was the author of Autoboyography, which is in the list of my top all time favorite reads ever. And when I opened The Unhoneymooners and saw her list of titles and it dawned on me why her name looked so familiar, I was over the moon excited to start this book.
And it seriously did not disappoint.
The Unhoneymooners is about Olive, who is the twin sister to the bride Ami. Ethan is the groom’s brother. Olive and Ethan cannot stand each other.
Due to bad shellfish, the entire wedding party (minus Olive and Ethan because Olive has a shellfish allergy and Ethan is horrified by eating buffet food) comes down with a nasty illness.
This means that Olive and Ethan go on the Hawaiian honeymoon as stand ins.
Between their discomfort with being near each other, and a whole host of other incidences that occur, this book kept me so so entertained. It was hilarious, it was romantic, and I never wanted it to end.
There were parts that I laughed out loud (thus scaring my family). If you must know what had me howling with laughter, it’s the part where they’re headed to do a boat tour. And that’s all I’m going to say, because you need to read it.
This is my second Christina Lauren book and she has rightfully earned a spot as an auto-buy author for me. I read The Unhoneymooners as an e-galley but I, without a doubt, will be owning a physical copy of this book to re-read again and again.
UPDATE: I did pre-order this book and it will be arriving to my house on May 14th! I’m super excited to own this!
