It’s been an interesting start to Spring this year.
I originally started my garden seeds February 4th. They were growing amazingly and then they got to the point where I needed to put them outside. It had been warm out so I put them inside the greenhouse cover on the garden bed.
That night, we had a heavy, heavy frost that no one predicted. And I lost every single seedling I had spend weeks sprouting. it was really depressing that next morning when I realized we’d lost all those seed starts I’d been tending to.
I waited a few weeks to start my seeds again (mostly because I was busy but also I was pretty sad I lost 72 seed starts). I just started a new batch a week ago, but this time I am only starting 36.
They’re still inside the house, and likely will remain inside for another few weeks until I feel brave enough to try putting this batch outside again.
Seeds We Started:
- pickling cucumbers
- mini peppers
- bell peppers
- cinnamon basil
I have a ton of seeds I’m waiting to direct sow into the garden as well. We’ve had a really, really wet spring. In fact, last weekend we got three inches of rain in two days. And somewhere around 11 days straight of rain. So I haven’t really been able to go outside and do much.
Currently I have garlic growing in the garden beds and a few other various things I need to pull. The garden is honestly a mess and I’m itching to go outside and start working in it more. I have Spring fever so bad. I’m ready to plant flowers and get my hands dirty in garden soil.
UPDATE: As of April 18th, we’ve been out to clean up the garden a bit and lay down weed barrier around the beds, plant some seeds (radishes, peas and sugar snap peas) and we did plant a few seedlings. So let’s hope they survive!
Are you planting anything this Spring?
